Experience with Horses
Rented 55 acres starting with one mare belonging to Mark Dixon (who coowned Talent), which rapidly expanded into 30 mares with the support from John Ferguson and Rabbah Bloodstock. Duties included foaling, boarding/walk in mares to leading Newmarket sires, preparing yearlings and foals for Doncaster and Newmarket Tattersalls sales. Also, horses taken for rehabilitation, box rest, holiday and occasional breakers. By 2018/19 I was employing 4 staff, rented further land and provided the transport for the horses boarding. Ashbrittle Stud. Stud Manager, (2005-2015). Head hunted and brought in to help design, from a working practical sense, the 2 foaling boxes, 26 boxes, walker, lunge pens on a 180 acre farm. Helped design walk ways, tree planting and fencing 90 acres of ‘Keep-Safe’ and ‘Post and Rail’, working with Newmarket based “All Season Fencing”. The owner, James Rowsell started with 10 mares and we built this up to 22 mares, by increasing the quality and placing the progeny with suitable trainers (R. Beckett). Duties included, foaling, producing foals and yearlings for the sales, becoming one of the top 5 consigners at December foal sales. Stud highlight, being the breeding of Talent (2013 Oaks winner).
