Experience with Horses

I would like to gain experience in a field that I have either been in before or haven’t yet been, to learn everything I can to make me a better horsewoman.

I would like to explore more of the competition grooming side, learning about the requirements of this role, whilst also being very willing to learn and stay back at the yard to keep everything running. I would really like to learn more in terms of groundwork with the horses, show prep and clipping. You can never have too much practice with horses, as every yard and every horse is different, and the more you experience this, the more knowledgeable and therefore better prepared you are.

I am a newly budding Dressage horse breeder, owning my first licensed stallion, and I would also be really interested, if the opportunity arose, to learn more about breeding and stud work.

I am fully able and very willing to carry out all general yard maintenance jobs, such as poo picking, mucking/ skipping out, feeding the horses, taking horses to and from the field, tack cleaning, rug changing, sweeping the yard, organising kit, etc.

I have worked with the RDA which I found to be a very humbling and rewarding experience. I have also worked at a Dressage yard, and as a fill in for a 5 star event yard.

Key Skills

I am a very willing and committed worker, I am happy to do all of the “not so nice jobs” of the yard eg poo picking etc. I am willing to try anything, I am very kind and caring with the horses, from handling gentle RDA ponies, to fit competition horses. I am a loyal and hard working person, happy to work both alone and with a team. I know I have more to learn in this industry, as the list of opportunities and skills is endless; and I hope I can contribute positively to my workplace.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I most enjoy working with horses because they are the most noble and intuitive animals, who can establish a true connection and bond with you. They are a great motivation to get you up and moving in the morning (be it rain or shine) and take in the beauty of the outdoors. I really enjoy sharing my love of horses with other like minded horse enthusiasts and I feel that horses can be very therapeutic. I am very committed to a hands on approach and physically active job, which you cannot achieve when working in an office.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to improve my general experience with horses of different disciplines, getting to know new people and experiencing everything the horseworld has to offer. I feel that I could improve my experience with young horses, and show prep, of which I have a great interest in learning about grooming at a show. I am also really interested in learning more skills with groundwork, as I feel that groundwork is an excellent and vital way to work side by side with a horse and establish a connection that you can’t get when you ride.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Because I am a kind, caring, compassionate and willing person, who enjoys spending time around other like minded horse enthusiasts, both in a team, or working alone. I am very open to trying new experiences to further my knowledge, and want to do the best I can to help any future employer in every way possible. The horse world is not a walk in the park, and the best way to achieve success and to enjoy your job and life with horses, is to work together with others, learning with and from them, to make every task just that little bit easier or more enjoyable. I am willing to try everything new that I haven’t yet done and put my greatest effort into being the best I can be.
