Job Description
South Buckinghamshire Riding for the Disabled provides children and adults, with a range of disabilities, with the opportunity to ride and have equine interaction, benefitting their health and well-being. We are based in Fulmer at a purpose-built facility which has been in existence for 60 years, with many a Paralympic medallist starting their career here. We are a thriving centre, open 7 days a week, with high standards and a friendly and inclusive atmosphere and we are looking for a full time groom or groom / coach to join our team. Our new staff member will be working alongside experienced staff and will have the opportunity to train for both RDA and BHS exams. Everyone at SBRDA is passionate about the development of our Centre and community and we pride ourselves on the new opportunities we offer to our riders.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
• To help care for the group’s horses, ensuring that they are provided with the correct feeding, watering, grazing and exercise to ensure that they are kept fit and healthy.
• To inspect the horses for possible injuries, infections or disease and to ensure the horses wellbeing and training.
• To carry out stable duties and prepare horses for RDA sessions and take part in RDA sessions offering a friendly and professional face to our volunteers and riders.
- Â To ensure the site facilities and equipment are maintained and tidy
- To represent SBRDA at local events or outings
- Late night checks on a rota basis
Minimum Requirements
• Previous experience of working with horses, a sound knowledge of equine care and health needs, and demonstrable handling skills with a good health and safety awareness.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and happy to work well as part of a small team and to represent South Bucks RDA to our participants and volunteers with a flexible approach to work.
• An interest in working with young people and vulnerable adults.
• Willingness to achieve RDA coach qualifications would be encouraged and supported
• An Enhanced DBS check will be required
