Job Description
Private family estate seeks groom with immediate start.
The preference is for a live-in groom, but a live-out groom would be considered if they lived in very close proximity.
This is a full-time (40 hours), 5-day a week position with the requirement to work weekends on a rota basis / as needed.
The applicant will be working as part of a team and under the instruction of the estate’s Equine Director. They will be jointly responsible for the care of 4 Cobs, 2 Clydesdales, 3 Shetlands, 1 Welsh Sec A pony and 2 Donkeys. There are plans to increase the herd this year.
The private estate is a working farm with good equine facilities. There is a 70x30m outdoor arena with show jumps and plentiful off-road hacking with a variety of cross country jumps.
This is a family focussed home with young children, dogs and other livestock.
Experience driving trailer or 3.5 ton horse box essential.
HGV 7.5 ton license preferable, but for the right candidate the family would consider sponsoring the required training and qualifications.
CVs and references will be required upon application.
Minimum Requirements
All yard duties must be performed to a high standard. The role may include some lone working on occasion.
Applicants must be experienced, competent riders and happy to jump up to 80cm.
Ability to clip/trim/turn out to a good standard.
Experience in basic equine first aid.
Due to the variety of horses, the family require an athletic, lightweight groom, ideally one who is able to exercise both the smaller cobs and larger types on a daily basis.
Candidates must be flexible, polite and discreet, as well as fit and energetic and a team player, with good social skills and the ability to work harmoniously alongside other equestrian staff and estate team.
The family require a groom who would also really enjoy riding with the younger members of the family. For that reason an Enhanced DBS Certificate will be required.
