Experience with Horses
I have been a passionate animal lover from a very young age. I had an incredibly horsey mum so have been sitting on a horse before I could walk! I spent my young years in the pony club, competing on both the mounted games and showjumping teams. I competed to national and international level before realising the joy had left both myself and my horse and we tried something new. I have always used natural horsemanship methods, with great results, so I put together all I knew and focused on groundwork and relationship training. 10 years later and we work completely at liberty, ridden and on the ground! I have worked in a number of different equine establishments, from riding schools, trekking centres, therapy centres to Grand Prix competition yards but have a keen interest in young horses, liberty work, behaviour and equine assisted learning. These are areas I’d like to work in going forwards!
I am confident and competent handling a range of horses and ponies (plus livestock, dogs and cats) from completely unhandled to fit competition stallions. I have spent a few years abroad and have been deputy manager at an animal rescue since returning to the UK. Working mostly with equine and livestock rehab plans and finding suitable homes thereafter.
I am also a keen gardener and have a lot of experience with children, particularly those with additional needs.
Key Skills
I’m a very calm individual so am great working under pressure. I take a lot of pride in my work and working relationships and have excellent communications skills. I can ride at a high level, clip, plait, hoof trim and have a number of years of equine knowledge, traditional and natural.
I do hold human advanced first aid certificates as well as equine and dog first aid certificates.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love how individual they are, the different responses and the different behaviours and finding solutions to “problems”.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I had a back injury at the start of 2022, so I need to build up my riding strength and ability again.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I fit in everywhere and will put my absolute all into any job. I bring energy, enthusiasm and a passion for all things happy animals. I have a huge amount of experience in a lot of sectors, a jack of all trades!
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I’d like to find somewhere with a similar ethos, to share ideas and build something great.
• Do you need accommodation?
if over 20 miles from BH21, then yes.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
I have a dog and a cat, they are both very well behaved. The dog tends to come with me to work but this is not necessary. I also have 2 ponies, one retired and one just starting out who will need grazing – they do not need stables.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
My animals! I am looking at doing and EAL level 5 course but this can be done in my own time.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
End of Jan 23/beginning of feb 23
