  1. Experience with Horses

Worked with horses since age 15 and owned horses from age 4. Obtained my professional qualifications as an apprentice, firstly in a riding school and latterly in a dressage yard. I have worked mostly in hunting yards since then, including head groom for MFH in Lambourn and also had spells in eventing (Ros Canter) and showjumping yards. In 2019 I was appointed as a lecturer in Equine Sport Science and Coaching at Bishop Burton University Centre, and utilised my industry experience to help guide the next generation into the industry.

Key Skills

I am able to work well both alone and as a team, and pride myself on having a good standard of work as well. I like to always make sure that a job has been well done and that the horses are happy.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• Upkeeping and improving welfare standards to keep the horses in my care as happy and healthy as possible. Happy horses make good athletes. I thoroughly enjoy being around the horses and I consider myself to patient with them.

• I do suffer with my nerves in the saddle, and I do prefer to see it as a recognition of my limitations, as opposed to a weakness. I am kind and fair when I do ride, but my lack of competitive experience in the saddle with sharp horses unfortunately means I am not confident to ride them.

• I have a solid background both in the industry, but also as far as my education is concerned. I am a BHSII with UKCC L2 in coaching, and a BSc Equine Studies. I am committed to learning more about the animals I work with to ensure their health and welfare as athletes is paramount, and I feel this is reflected in both my industry experience and the years I have spent in education to reinforce that.

Requirements

• Job satisfaction and to be proud of my job.

• Do you need accommodation? No

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you? No

• Do you have any ongoing commitments? I do run my own online equine supplements business, but this is very flexible and fits in around my work as it is online.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of? Yes, some showing dates for my horses in July and August 23
