Experience with Horses
I have been riding for 20 years and have experience in show jumping as I have competed up until 1m20 but have jumped higher in training. I have occasionally worked with young horse (5years old).
I currently work as a groom
- Feeding, haying and providing water for equines.
- Mucking/skipping out, bedding down, sweeping the yard.
- Keeping allocated areas tidy such as the feed room, tack room and storage areas.
- Keeping the yard tidy and safe in line with health and safety regulations.
- Tack cleaning.
- Turning out or bringing in from the field/caring for equines living out in the field.
- Putting on and removing rugs as appropriate.
- Tacking up and untacking equines.
- Grooming/applying bandaging.
- Caring for equines after being exercised or lunged.
- Planning safe routes to take riders on hacks
Key Skills
I can work well alone but with others as well. I am easily coachable and am always willing to learn. I can lounge horses, ride them on the flat and over jumps as well as groom them and take on any other work eg. Feed and more.
I can handle a stallion and have some experience with a couple young horses.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I like building connections with horses, taking care of them, and progressing with them on the ground and ridden as well.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I want to learn more about clipping horses and despite being a good rider, I’m always looking to improve my riding as well.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am always willing to learn and am easily coachable. I also have over 20 years with horses so I am very familiar with being around them.
