Experience with Horses

I have worked/done work experience on a number of yards over the years since having my own horse, most recently working on a dressage/eventing stud yard. Having gained a number of year experience from busy riding school/livery/competition yards, to showjumping studs and small private livery yards. Each yard has taught me vital lessons in which I use alongside my qualifications I have gained alongside work. I have been rising youngsters on the stud for 2 years, re-backing and starting the breaking process then progressing them throgiuh the basics of their work.

Not only have I got practical experience in the field I am also BHS Stage 2 qualified, have completed from extended diploma in equine management and most recently have fully completed a Bachelors of Science in Equine science, management and training at the University of Derby. I now hope to put this knowledge in the field and help expand my knowledge.

Key Skills

I have experience working with competition horses, stallions, foals, broodmares, and general livery horses. I have been offering freehand clipping services over the last few years and have a number of clients. I am capable of turning out horses to a good standard and take pride in perfection whether it be the horse or the stable/bed/or equipment.

I have handled foals for general duties such a vet visits. trimming, leading, halter training etc and I am confident being around horses of any type. I am very competent and have worked solely in my last few positions for a number of different reasons some being, sole work when looking after 40+ horses ranging from stallions to competition horses and young stock. I am happy to work in a team and take orders etc, while tops being competent enough to take leadership in a group of people.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

The connection you gain working 1 to 1 with horses. Alongside creating partnership with the young horses and foals through daily interactions. They are very rewarding animals and the anatomy is next to do none, analysing their way of going and overall movement during different ridden exercises.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

Practice and improve my competition prep skills, as in my current employment I do not plait for competitions. My riding is always something that I enjoy working on, by taking advice and watching/listening to masterclasses, learning new skills and exercises to benefit both me and the horse that I am working, whether it be on the ground or during ridden work. I also take pride in my own physical fitness, I spend a lot of time in the gym strengthening and ensuring my body is less prone to injury and is at its best for both myself and the horse.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I have an impeccable eye for perfection and strive to do the best that I can in my work. I am happy to be left on my own and very much crack on with whatever I have been asked/need to do. Rather than wait around I tend to fid other jobs to do whether it be cleaning or completing other jobs that need doing I would rather be kept busy with the results of a clean working environment.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would like to putt use not only the skills I already have but also learn new skills along the way, I have completed all of the qualifications have for a reason and have learnt knowledge that others may lack, for this reason I would like to put these to work whether it be on a yard or in a more office style environment.

• Do you need accommodation?

if the job was too far away from my current home then accommodation would be needed but this is not 100% necessary.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

I have 1 horse, whihic if I moved too far from home he would need to come with me, he is a 17hh sports horse.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

N/A

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

I have a holiday booked form the 1st September to the 10th September
