Experience with Horses
I have had a passion for horses from a young age and having been raised within an equine family, I have worked with horses all my life. During high school I gained extra experience with horses working as a part time groom on weekends which is a role I have continued to do alongside full time employment. With my own horse I have gained lots of experience in varies disciplines including UA Eventing, producing ex racehorses, hunting, showing and also attending various clinics with young inexperienced horses. Having been brought up attending pony club and also regularly hunting throughout my life I can turn out and plait to a high standard. Having dealt with a yard full of horses everyday I know and appreciate the fact not every horse is the same, I tend to my own yard where my own horse is kept feeding all the horses at the same time and turning out in the morning. Weekend mornings I start earlier as I have part time employment on a yard away from my own horse where I tend to a yard of horses to give the full time groom weekends off, these horses are in a strict routine which I must keep to, putting on and off walker, one horse requires daily medication, turning out, mucking out and leaving the yard tidy and ready for the horses to return to in the afternoon which I do alone.
Key Skills
I am very independent once I have been shown what needs to be done and I am a very hard worker, although it does not phase me to work alone I am also a team player and I am more than happy to work alongside others. I am also a very neat and tidy worker and considerate of those around me. I can ride out to a high standard and I am used to dealing with fit hunt horses and also young horses. I have a variety of knowledge, working under a dressage rider for numerous years part time I have gained lots skills I can utilise elsewhere in the industry and having hunted most of my life I can adapt to most situations.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• The part I most enjoy about working with horses is seeing them improve and flourish in whatever discipline they compete in.
• I would like to widen my skills by constantly learning more.
• I am a hard worker who is keen to learn and has a genuine passion and love for the sport and the animal.
