Experience with Horses

LANGALLER STUD FARM – DEVON
GROOM- 2010 – 2011
Whilst at Langaller I worked as a stud groom. My daily task would include mucking out of stallions, mares and youngsters. Exercising hunt horses and help with the covering of mares (visiting and in house)
Other responsibilities included the turnout of all the horses, making sure that both the horse and tack met the seriously high standards set by the head groom. Deputised as head groom in their absence with the sole responsibility of running the yard.

SOUTH DEVON HUNT – DEVON
HEAD GROOM- 2011 – 2012
Lead groom. My responsibilities were to ensure that all horses on the yard were fit and ready to hunt. Responsible for booking and organising the Vet, farrier and chiropractor, meeting and hosting them whilst on site. Responsible to develop the junior members of the team making sure that they kept the adequate standard expected on a Hunting Yard. I was also utilised as a whipper in when the regular team were unavailable.

KINGS’ TROOP ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY- WOOLWICH
STABLES JUNIOR NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER – 2012 – 2016
The Kings Troop Royal Horse Artillery are the ceremonial mounted soldiers of his Majesty King Charles the 3rd. As a Junior Non-Commissioned Officer (JNCO) in the King’s troop I have taken part in some of the largest military parades, including trooping the colour, the late Queens jubilee’ and the Royal Windsor Horse Show. I was responsible for preparing all the horses, the harnesses as well as a First World War-era field gun to a standard required for a vigorous inspection by the highest of VVIP’s and have always passed with exemplary standards. Along with mentoring and nurturing those under my command to individual ridding success it was my responsibility to obtain and back horses, gauging their suitability for Military service, a role that I loved and enjoyed. Many of the horses I trained are still on parade today and will be taking part in the upcoming coronation celebration.
As part of the military equine curriculum soldiers are encouraged to compete using their military working horses, an activity I took full advantage of, qualifying and competing at venues such as HOYS and the Windsor Horses Show.

ROYAL ARTILLERY SADDLE CLUB – LARKHILL
YARD MANAGER / CHIEF INSTRUCTOR – 2019 – 2021
I spent 2 years managing the Royal Artillery’s premier equine centre in Wiltshire. A yard with a responsibility to provide suitable horses for both Military and civilian competition’s, from grass roots to Olympic qualifier. As a Self-funded yard it was a requirement for me to programme a robust and fit for purpose riding school, teaching lessons from toddlers on lead ropes through to clients preparing for their first trip to the Birmingham International Horse Show. Acting also as a forces welfare centre we provided livery for up to 60 equines, mandated to produce and run both dressage and showjumping shows – April – October and from October – March furnish and transport horses to the Royal Artillery drag hunt. An immensely rewarding 2 years which exposed me to the detailed requirement for council and local government inspections on livery and riding schools and along with the 9 staff I managed we produced exemplary results.
