Experience with Horses
Previously I have worked on a yeard where they did everything you can imagine, any request and the boss would find a way. They were a livery yard, lessons, and trekking, trained horses from all ages and levels, and they had 3 foals a year. I worked there as an all-around employee and riding instructor.
I also planned lessons or tracks into the computer system when people called, emailed, or face to face. I took payments.
We did big or small events and had pony camps in the summer.
My current job is working with 3 – 5-year-old green horses that have only been in paddocks since birth and have never had human interference in their lives. So starting from the first haltering up until riding. I don’t ride but work the horses from the ground and help the rider.
My riding experience is mostly in dressage and I do a little jumping but I’m not very good at that. I’ve also done a lot of hacking and taking groups out to the forest. The riding level of these groups ranged from never sat on a horse to competition riders
Key Skills
I can work in teams and I can work alone. Preferably on smaller yards, mostly because I have bad experiences with big and/or commercial yards.
I can plait, I can bandage, I can tack up fast, I can muck out to a high standard, I am good with kids and teaching them even though they are scared. I have a driver’s license B and I know how to hook up a trailer however I have never driven with one yet.
I love teaching and I have a diploma for it but I stopped and started working elsewhere because I wanted to improve my own skills and riding skills to a higher level so that I can teach better again one day.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
With teaching, I loved seeing the improvement. Day one they do not know anything and half a year later they jump the quick ponies. Some kids learn slower than others and I took the time they needed.
I haven’t trained any horses by riding them but with my current job even seeing them from 0 to how they leave this yard… I think it’s great!
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would love to improve my skills overall, My riding skills so I have a better seat and could jump onto any horse and of course improve and be a better rider so I can teach and help others better but also I would love to learn how to clip horses as my lastest job never took the time to teach me.
I want to learn as much as I can and work with different breeds and different sports. I only know jumping and dressage, but polo or retraining ottt sounds great too!
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am a hard worker, and I learn fast. I love learning new things or new techniques. And I have a happy and bubbly personality.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I don’t mind mucking out or doing the dirty work. But I want to improve all my equestrian skills. Taking care of the horses and training them. I do not want to be a rider, but I would like to improve my riding skills if possible.
I would also love to learn how to manage a yard and what goes on behind the scenes.
• Do you need accommodation?
Yes
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
No
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
My current job has a one-month notice
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
No holidays booked yet but 3 or 4 days surrounding 6th July for a family thing.
