  1. Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have owned horses since I was 14 years old, but did not come from a horsey background. I had lessons from a young age however, and always had a passion for the horses.

I worked for many years in “Creevagh House Stud” from the age of 14-21 until the owner sadly passed away. I gained a lot of experience in these years with broodmare, young stock, breakers, showjumpers, sales stock and also stallions.

Prior to working at Creevagh, I moved to Wicklow to work on a thoroughbred sales prep and foaling yard. I have only foaled one mare myself but happy to learn the ins and outs!

I would love the opportunity to ride but am not necessarily seeking a ridden role.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others,

clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I would rather a small well knit group of workers who cooperate and work well together with a bit of craic along the way, to a busy yard with staff who don’t actually know one another!
I can plait but would appreciate any tips/advice that could be offered!

I have never turned out for shows but have turned out for training shows. I have prepped foals, yearlings, and broodmare for the thoroughbred sales too.

I have handled stallions, Camiro De Haar z, Creevagh Ferro ex Siebe and Creevagh Clinton. Some of the thoroughbreds for handling and sales would also have been young colts handled daily.

At Creevagh I would have ridden a selection of everything but I would need my confidence brought back to get to that point again as I have had a few years away from the horse scene and am not rider fit nor as confident as my teenage years!! Sack of spurs sort of feel now!

I am normally known as an easy to get on with, chatty person and I am a hard worker once I get settled in to a yard and get comfortable with the layouts and people.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Being outdoors and not trapped in an office scenario. Being busy and active also. And horses have always been my go to since a young age.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

Ridden work and always wanting to expand my knowledge in many/any areas.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am motivated and passionate about horses and want a career with them to last into the foreseeable future.

Requirements

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would love to gain my confidence again on horseback, and also expand my knowledge in numerous areas with any information I haven’t yet had experience of.

• Do you need accommodation?

Yes unless in my area.

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

I have an off the track tb who i do light ridden work with, mainly hacking and sometimes would pop a pole. Wouldn’t mind him coming along but may not be something I would do until I settle in also.

I have a Collie bitch too. If living in I would need that to be took into consideration.

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

Currently on a dole scheme and would need to be able to give notice to leave.

• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know about?

March 1-20th out of the country.
