Experience with Horses

Throughout my academic journey and voluntary work, I have gained diverse experience with horses. I actively volunteered at a Horse rescue and rehabilitation centre, handling and assessing trotters for adoption. Additionally, I managed a barn with eight horses, providing me with hands-on experience in stable management, rehabilitation handling, and re-training trotters transitioning from racing to riding. My academic pursuits in Animal Husbandry, Equine Sport, and Business at Van Hall Larenstein have further honed my theoretical knowledge.

Key Skills

  • Working alone and collaboratively
  • Rehabilitation handling
  • Stable management
  • Turning out
  • Basic grooming and handling
  • Clipping
  • Riding young horses
  • Non-equine skills include efficient order management, client engagement, and meticulous spreadsheet tracking gained from my background in delivering exceptional customer service in the bar industry.

Strengths and Weaknesses

What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Delving into horse training brings me immense satisfaction, particularly the rewarding journey of shaping and guiding young horses. Over my three years of hands-on experience, witnessing their growth and forming connections has become a source of joy, especially as I explore the intricate nuances of dressage. Beyond training, I delight in the non-riding aspects, such as grooming and overall care, fostering a holistic approach to equine well-being.

Is there anything you’d like to improve?

Despite my valuable three years of experience, my exposure to dressage has been limited. This limitation fuels my eagerness to enhance my skills in dressage training, aiming for a profound understanding of guiding young horses through the complexities of this art. I am committed to continuous improvement and expanding my expertise.

Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

My three years of comprehensive experience provide a strong foundation, demonstrating my passion for training horses. While my proficiency in dressage may be in the early stages, my dedication to learning and excellence is unwavering. Focused on developing young horses, I offer a unique blend of hands-on experience and a commitment to continuous growth. As a quick learner, I am poised to adapt and embark on the next phase of my career in the equine industry. Additionally, my fast-learning abilities ensure that with initial guidance, I can swiftly become independent in just a few weeks, contributing effectively and efficiently to the team.

Requirements

What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I am eager to take on the role of Groom/Rider, with a primary focus on grooming responsibilities and the added flexibility to engage in riding activities. My riding skills include lunging, flat work, and hacking, covering a spectrum from young horses to older ones. While my dressage experience is limited, I am enthusiastic about gaining more proficiency in this area, aligning with my commitment to continuous learning and growth.

Do you need accommodation?

YES

Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

While not an immediate need, I have a horse in the Netherlands. I am interested in possibly bringing him with me, and I am open to talking with you about possible arrangements.

Do you have any ongoing commitments?

NO

Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?

NO
