Experience with Horses
Previously, I have worked on a show jumping yard as a groom where I took sole charge of the horses day to day care as well as attending and staying away at shows to groom. I was in charge of organising the farrier, vaccinations, feed deliveries etc. As well as some riding on the flat and hacking.
I have also worked on a busy livery yard as part of a team. My duties would include, turn out, mucking out, feeding, preparing feeds, hacking, holding the horses for the farrier. In my younger days, I also worked for a riding school and took out the hacks.
Key Skills
I am able to clip, plait, trim, and pull. As well as lunging, riding on the flat and hacking. I can confidently handle all types of horses. I am able to confidently work on my own, but I do enjoy working in a team as well. I am a smiley and bubbly person (that counts as a key skill right?!) who has a great sense of humour. I’m the type of person who can get along with anyone.
Strengths and Weaknesses
I just absolutely love horses, I always have and I always will. And because I love them so much, I will always care for them like they were my own. I really enjoy seeing them improve and succeed and feel a great sense of joy and pride when they do well at shows, or little thing like stand well for the farrier if they hate it.
I am such a caring person, towards the horses, my team and everyone around me, this is why I believe I am a great person to have around the yard and see every day.
I am quick and efficient, I get things done with no faffing around.
I am always keen to learn new things, and quick to admit if I don’t know something.
I’d say a weakness for me would be that I have only worked within show jumping, livery and riding schools, so I don’t have much experience else where. Having said this, I am a quick learner and also so keen to learn whatever I can to better myself.
Also, I would like to better my riding, but this is not necessary.
