Experience with Horses
I have been riding and around horses for over ten years now. I have experience volunteering at my local stables for a number of years before covid, which included helping bring young horses into work, assisting with general yard duties and supervising children on the yard. I also part loaned a pony for 18 months while in sixth form so am used to independently caring for horses. Currently I am at university and have started playing polo, but I’m missing time at the stables. I am confident in yard duties such as mucking out, feeding and watering, turning out and bringing in and maintaining the yard to a high standard. I am confident exercising horses by lunging, riding or hand walking.
Key Skills
I am used to working as part of a team but am also happy to work independently. I enjoy and have experience working with a variety of different horses from youngsters to competition ponies. There are some areas where I lack knowledge, for example in competition turnout or clipping, but I am constantly looking to expand my skill set and am more than willing to learn these things.
Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths:
– Confident in a wide range of tasks
– Passion for horses and their welfare
– Always willing to learn
– Can drive
Weaknesses
– Lesser knowledge in some areas (clipping, show turnout, bandaging)
Requirements
– I can work full time over summer but would need reduced hours in September when university starts again.
