Experience with Horses

I started working with horses in 2016, spending 4 years at a riding school/all round yard where I gained experience showjumping, hunting and competing in the working hunter. Through this job Ive gathered experience working with children, yard maintenance and riding a variety of horses and ponies. Progressing from this yard, I spent 3 years at a national hunt and flat racing yard where I exercised many different racehorses, groomed at home and at the races and helped complete daily yard tasks such as feeding, mucking out and turning out. I then worked at a different flat yard for the summer of 2023 doing similar tasks as mentioned above. I am now working at a horse dealers, where my main duties are hacking, flat work and grooming, but willing to help with whatever jobs needs to be done.

 

Key Skills

I would like to say I am a competent rider on the flat and have 8 years under my belt of riding a huge variety of different horses and ponies. I am an extremely open learner and can groom to a good standard, which can be improved under proper training. I am timely and like to keep the yard running in a smooth manner whether that’s working on the ground or on a horse.

 

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

My favourite thing about working with horses is the freedom and sense of responsibility that comes with it. I love to look after animals and love to experience the connections between animals and human.

 

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I’d love to improve my grooming lifestyle more and be able to clip, bandage and lunge with more professional help. I would also like to build up my confidence with jumping as it’s something that I’ve struggled with recently.

 

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I am an extremely easy going person who will complete any task to a high standard. I love being given new opportunities, whether that be again riding or grooming. I have years of experience and am ready to gain even more working as a team.

• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?

I would like to improve my grooming and flat riding if possible and work with a multitude of horses.

Yes, as I’m from Ireland and I want to work overseas I would need accommodation.

 

• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?

N/A

 

• Do you have any ongoing commitments?

I am a college student full time so I would be looking for  position that can satisfy the summer months (Mid May-Mid August)
