Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have been around horses since I was 2 and been riding/caring for them since I was 4. I was part of Pony Club for roughly 6 years, in which I completed up to my C test before Covid started and I left. I have then had a job at a riding school from July 2021-April 2024, in which I did a mix of yard and teaching. I also completed a 2 year equine course at Sparsholt College coming out with the highest grade possible in both years. I am confident and capable in working with and riding all types of horses even the ‘difficult’ ones. I also did one weeks work experience at Liphook Equine Vets, in which I got to sit in on a MRI, lameness work ups, colic surgery and much more. I am able to school a horse independently and identify what would benefit the horse to improve it further, as well as lunging, long reining etc.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I have a love for plaiting and turning out horses for shows, I normally get asked to plait my friends horses when they have a upcoming show, as well as my boss in my previous job asking me to plait her horses. I can quarter mark, clip, bath etc. I work well on my own and I am confident in what I am doing.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Seeing a beneficial change in them and watching them improve overtime
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to learn and get experience with handling stallions as this is something I’ve never had the opportunity to do and feel like it would be a beneficial skill to have.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am willing to turn my hand to any task given and not afraid to get stuck in and get dirty. I am always up to learning new skills and will try anything if given the right guidance, I am also willing to work any hours and days of the week.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
Gain more experience on bigger working yards and competition yards as well as continuing to improve my turnout skills.
• Do you need accommodation?
no
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
no
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
no
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
