Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
- I have lots of experience riding a vast multitude of different horses, as I did not have my own horse for several years and rode anything and everything I was able to. I am very comfortable riding, schooling and showing everything from very green horses, all the way through schoolmasters and everything in between.
- I am well versed in everything from schooling, lunging, tacking, grooming, clipping, wrapping, etc. I also have lots of experience with all basic aspects of horse care and everyday barn chores. Additionally, I am a very confident rider and I have no problem riding, schooling and showing any variety of green, naughty or inexperienced horses.
- In the past I have worked alongside a trainer while they were home, riding, teaching and making sure things ran smoothly. When they went to shows I was responsible for overseeing the program, riding client horses and teaching lessons- often for weeks at a time. I also have lots of experience as a groom.
- I also spent a summer as an exercise rider for young horses (2-4 years old) as well as maintaining a rehabilitation program. In my last job I was responsible for riding and maintaining the condition of 20+ show horses.
- I am very well versed in all aspects of horse care as well as the oversight of staff.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
- I am extremely patient and this has served me well in training (especially young) horses.
- I have work experience with horses of all ages, as well as stallions.
- I spent one summer managing a rehabilitation program.
- I have had great success in running a lesson program.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Horses don’t care what you look like, or what you had for dinner, or what the newest tabloid says. Don’t get me wrong I love talking and engaging with people, but when the surface level conversations become too tedious- horses have always been able to ground me, offer me perspective.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I think every great rider is always looking to improve. I have my background in the hunters, so I would love to gain more experience in upper level dressage.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am positive, organized, self-motivated and ready to get to work!!
