Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
With over a decade of hands-on equine experience, combined with a professional background in leadership, performance management, and client-focused service delivery, I bring a well-rounded and highly adaptable skill set to yard management.
Currently working as a Recovery Support Team Leader with The Forward Trust, I lead teams, oversee performance, and ensure high standards of care and service delivery in a complex, fast-paced environment. This role has strengthened my leadership, organisational, and problem-solving abilities, as well as my commitment to maintaining structured, high-performing environments—skills directly transferable to managing a successful and professional livery yard.
Alongside this, my extensive equine background includes freelance grooming at Trout Rise Equestrian and over 10 years as a Head Girl, Rider, and Instructor. I have managed busy livery yards, maintained exceptional standards of horse care, and worked with a wide range of horses—from young and retraining racehorses to competition and para-equestrian horses. I am a confident and compassionate rider, experienced in schooling horses up to Elementary dressage, and a supportive instructor dedicated to building confidence and progression in riders of all abilities.
My degree in Psychology further underpins my approach, allowing me to communicate effectively, lead with empathy, and build strong, trusting relationships with both clients and staff. I am highly organised, reliable, and committed to creating a positive, professional yard environment where both horses and people can thrive.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
Sole charge of yard, training inexperienced or new members of staff, handling and training young horses, clipping, plaiting and tuning out to high standards. Experienced with event and dressage horses.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I believe my greatest strengths with horses lie in my calm, patient approach and my ability to read and understand their behaviour. With over 10 years of hands-on experience, I am confident handling a wide range of horses, including young, sensitive, and more challenging types. I take pride in maintaining high standards of care, from daily routines to recognising subtle changes in health or condition. I am particularly strong in building trust with horses, ensuring they feel safe and settled, which allows them to perform and progress at their best. My attention to detail and commitment to their welfare underpin everything I do.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I have a tendency to take on a high volume of work to ensure tasks are completed to a strong standard. While this reflects my commitment, I recognise the importance of balancing workload effectively. I have been developing stronger prioritisation skills to maintain both efficiency and quality.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I believe I would be a strong choice for this role because I combine reliability, a strong work ethic, and a genuine commitment to delivering high-quality results. I approach my work with a positive and proactive attitude, and I am always willing to take initiative and support others to ensure team objectives are achieved.
In addition, I am highly adaptable and able to respond effectively to new challenges or changing priorities. I take pride in being organised and dependable, which allows me to manage responsibilities efficiently while maintaining a high standard of work.
What sets me apart is my willingness to learn and continuously improve. I actively seek feedback and use it constructively to develop my skills and contribute more effectively. I am also committed to building positive working relationships, which I believe is essential for a productive and collaborative environment.
Overall, I would bring not only the skills required for the role, but also a strong sense of responsibility, professionalism, and motivation to contribute to the success of the organisation.
