Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
- Ensure the full welfare and daily wellbeing of up to nine horses — including owned and client horses by managing feeding, mucking out, grooming, turnout, and monitoring physical and behavioural health, with accurate record‑keeping in line with British Showjumping and FEI veterinary and medication regulations.
- Prepare horses on the flat for the main rider — delivering structured schooling sessions to improve suppleness, rhythm, straightness, and rideability; tailoring work to each horse’s age, fitness level, and competition schedule, from five‑year‑olds to Grand Prix horses, including stallions.
- Maintain veterinary, farrier, physio, and training records — ensuring all documentation is up to date, compliant with governing‑body rules, and ready for inspection at national and FEI shows, including vaccinations, treatments, and horse passports.
- Present horses to a professional show standard — plaiting, clipping, bathing, trimming, studding, and preparing tack and equipment; managing warm‑up routines and timings to support the main rider efficiently at competitions.
- Oversee daily yard operations — ensuring high standards of cleanliness, biosecurity, and organisation across stables, turnout areas, and arenas; maintaining safe working conditions and supporting smooth running of the yard.
- Exercise and manage all horses on the yard — including hacking, lunging, fitness work, and flatwork schooling to maintain conditioning and mental wellbeing, adapting routines for young horses, competition horses, and breeding stallions.
- Provide excellent client communication and service — welcoming owners on the yard, updating them on progress, welfare, and training, and representing the yard professionally at shows and events.
- Prepare equipment and transport for shows — cleaning tack, organising stud kits, rugs, feed, and medical supplies, and planning efficient loading of the lorry to ensure smooth departures and arrivals.
- Support flexible yard and show coverage — adjusting working hours around competition schedules, travel, and horse care needs to ensure consistent, reliable support for the rider and team.
- Maintain a tidy, organised tack room and working environment — ensuring equipment is clean, stored correctly, and ready for daily use or competition.
