Experience with Horses
My equestrian experience spans a variety of yard environments, giving me a well-rounded foundation in horse care and management. I currently volunteer at a sales and livery yard in Hereford, where I continue to develop my practical skills on a daily basis. I have also gained experience at a competition yard in Guildford, and completed a work placement at Lenherr Sportpferde, a dressage competition yard in Switzerland, which provided valuable exposure to a high-performance equestrian setting. Additionally, I have worked at Pearl Island Arabians in Hereford — a stud farm and livery yard — which broadened my understanding of stud management and horse care across different disciplines.
Key Skills
I have hands-on experience across all aspects of daily yard management, including preparing horses for exercise and competition, turning in and out to a high standard, feeding and nutrition management, mucking out and stable maintenance, tack cleaning and equipment care, and the use of horse walkers. Beyond routine yard duties, I have also gained experience in lunging, bathing, and assisting during veterinary visits. I am confident working independently as well as part of a team, and take pride in maintaining high standards of horse care at all times.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
What I enjoy most about working with horses is the individuality of each animal — every horse has its own personality, temperament, and way of communicating, which keeps the work constantly engaging and rewarding. Building a bond of trust with a horse is something I find deeply fulfilling, and I believe that understanding each horse as an individual leads to better care, improved performance, and a safer working environment for everyone on the yard
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I am always looking to deepen my knowledge and understanding of horses, particularly in areas such as equine health, nutrition, and behavioural psychology. While I have built a solid practical foundation across a range of yard environments, I believe there is always more to learn in this field, and I actively welcome opportunities for further training and development. I see this not as a limitation, but as a reflection of my commitment to continually improving the standard of care I provide.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I believe I stand out as a candidate due to the combination of my genuine passion for horses and my diverse, hands-on experience across a range of professional yard environments — from a local sales and livery yard in Hereford, to a high-performance dressage competition yard in Switzerland. This variety has given me a well-rounded skill set and the adaptability to integrate quickly into any yard setting.
I am deeply committed to delivering the highest standard of care in everything I do, and I approach every task — whether routine or challenging — with enthusiasm and dedication. I am a fast learner who actively seeks out opportunities to grow, and I am fully flexible regarding relocation, meaning I can commit wholly to the role without hesitation.
Above all, I bring not just ability, but a genuine love for this work — and I believe that passion, combined with practical experience and a willingness to keep improving, makes me a motivated and reliable addition to any team.
