Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I am an 18-year-old equestrian based in Newcastle upon Tyne with over 10 years of hands-on experience working with horses, both ridden and on the ground. I completed a 12-week residential course at the National Horseracing College in Doncaster, gaining practical experience in racehorse care, riding, fitness work, and yard management. I currently work as a stable hand, where I regularly handle stallions and carry out busy day-to-day yard duties including feeding, mucking out, turnout, grooming, and maintaining high standards of horse care and safety.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

• Able to work confidently both independently and as part of a team
• Experienced handling stallions safely and confidently
• Experience handling young horses on the ground
• Competent with daily yard duties including feeding, mucking out, turnout, grooming, and tacking up
• Experience clipping and plaiting, with willingness to continue improving these skills
• Reliable, hardworking, and able to work in physically demanding environments
• Good understanding of horse care, welfare, and yard safety
• Keen to learn and further develop skills within the equine industry

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

What I enjoy most about working with horses is building trust and understanding with each individual horse, as every horse has a different personality and way of working. I enjoy the hands-on nature of yard work and being part of the daily care and routine that keeps horses happy and healthy. I also enjoy continuing to learn and develop my skills within the equine industry while gaining experience with a variety of horses and environments.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve? I would like to continue improving my riding and gain more experience schooling and developing horses correctly. Most of my riding experience so far has been focused on hacking and some jumping, and while I can school to an extent, I am keen to build more confidence and further develop my flatwork skills. Although I already have strong knowledge and hands-on experience with horses, I am always willing to continue learning and developing my skills within the industry.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Employers should consider me because I am very calm, patient, and hardworking, with a genuine passion for horses and the equine industry. I am reliable, willing to learn, and always give 100% in everything I do. I have over 10 years of hands-on experience with horses alongside professional yard experience, and I am confident working in busy, physically demanding environments both independently and as part of a team. I am eager to continue developing my skills and gaining experience while maintaining high standards of horse care and safety.
