Future Requirements

I am looking to gain reliable clients in the driving, showing, hunting and commercial driving fields. I am based near Peterborough and can travel within 20 miles of Peterborough without charging for fuel.

I do not require accommodation unless a competitive live-in role comes up – which would be considered if on a showing, driving or hunt yard. If a suitable live-in role came up I would potentially have one well behaved old dog to bring with if the yard was suitable for him.

At present, my diary is open. I have no holidays booked off, and my other clients book in as and when, rather than on a regular basis.

Experience with Horses

I have grown up around hunt and show horses, where I gained plenty of experience in trimming, plaiting and high standard turnouts. Recently, I completed a level 3 diploma in equine management at Moulton College, and after that I completed a carriage driving level 3 qualification with KEITS training. This was completed during my time on a driving yard where I learned to drive a single and pair according to BDS and road safety standards. I drive coachman, can groom for a pair or team of any size, can dress carriages and outride too.

I can ride to a dressage prelim standard and have competed in and won dressage classes. I can jump to a metre confidently as well as hack, ride and lead, and deal with traffic on the roads well.

Key Skills

I am particularly skilled in producing high quality turnouts for shows – especially native breed classes and private driving. I have produced turnouts which have gone on to win classes and qualifiers, although I am looking to progress on to county-level showing as my next step. I am an attentive driving groom according to some coachmen I’ve worked with, and this extends to day-to-day yard chores such as husbandry and exercise. I am comfortable handling stallions and tricky horses – this extends to exercise too.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I enjoy working with horses because I am passionate about the care of all animals, particularly horses. Having grown up around them, I have come to enjoy life with horses in all aspects. When I’m not working with them, I’m often riding or helping out on our family-run livery yard. I have a large book collection about horses and equine studies, and am always looking to learn more.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

If anything, I would like to improve my teamwork skills as I am used to working alone. I would also like to gain more experience in showing at higher levels as a groom to advance my career and gain new knowledge. I’m also open to working on a stud yard, as this is an area that I also lack experience in.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I’m an all-rounder – able to ride, jump, school, drive and groom. I’m qualified via Moulton College and KEITS, am insured with the BGA and can meet most expectations. I also have good references available if you require.
