Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I do not currently have professional horse-yard experience, but I am very willing to learn and happy to start with general yard duties, animal care, cleaning, feeding, basic handling support, housekeeping, and estate/farm work.

I am an animal lover and have long-term hands-on experience caring for my own cats, including daily care, feeding, cleaning, travel preparation, and managing their wellbeing during international relocation. I am responsible, calm around animals, and comfortable with practical work. I also have experience in hospitality, university service operations, teaching support, research, and technical problem-solving, so I can bring reliability, good organisation, and a careful working attitude to the role.

I am mainly looking for an animal-related or countryside-based role with accommodation, where I can work in a quieter environment and contribute through practical, reliable support.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I am particularly good at working independently, staying organised, and completing tasks carefully. I am reliable with routines, cleaning, preparation, and day-to-day practical work.

I also work well with others when needed. My previous experience in hospitality and university service work helped me build strong communication, time management, and customer service skills. My academic and research background has also trained me to be patient, observant, detail-focused, and good at following procedures safely.

Key strengths include:

  • Animal care and daily routine responsibility
  • Cleaning, organisation, and practical support
  • Hospitality and customer-facing experience
  • Working calmly under pressure
  • Good time management
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to learn new animal-care and yard skills

These points are based on your CV experience in hospitality, service delivery, teaching support, and research/technical work.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Although I am still developing direct horse experience, what attracts me most is the chance to work closely with animals in a calm, natural environment. I enjoy practical care work, daily routines, and being part of an animal’s wellbeing.

I find it meaningful to look after animals properly, notice small changes in their behaviour, and help keep their living environment clean, safe, and comfortable.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

Yes. I would like to build more hands-on horse and yard experience, especially around handling, feeding routines, grooming, mucking out, and understanding horse behaviour.

I am very willing to learn from experienced staff, follow instructions carefully, and start from basic duties. I would rather learn properly and safely than pretend to know more than I do.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

Employers should consider me because I am mature, reliable, careful, and genuinely motivated to work in an animal-related environment. I am not looking for this type of role casually — I am actively looking for a quieter, more meaningful working life where I can give steady practical support.

I have a strong academic background, but I am also very hands-on and not afraid of cleaning, routine work, or starting from the basics. My previous work in hospitality and university service roles shows that I can be trusted with responsibility, teamwork, and daily operations. I also have a full UK driving licence and can start immediately.

Most importantly, I truly care about animals and would treat the role with respect, patience, and consistency.
