Future Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I’m looking for a more outdoorsy and independent job. I would like to work with horses and also children and maybe try agricultural work also. My problem is I have no previous professional experience in these fields as I have been a VW service technician since leaving school at 16 and am now finding it difficult to get accepted into other job roles due to a very particular skill set. I am practical, have held down the same job for nearly 7 years and completed my apprenticeship with a distinction grade having no previous experience working on cars so I believe I can turn my hand at anything.
• Do you need accommodation?
I do need accommodation if the job is more than commuting distance away from Carlisle but ideally looking for somewhere that isn’t too far away so that I can travel back here on weekends at least. I have a house here and am reluctant to let it go but I would if the right opportunity came along.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
No.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments? I am currently working my 2 month notice period and will be available from the middle of August but I do have the option to shorten my notice period to the middle of July if the right opportunity comes along.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?A week in the beginning of August.
Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
My professional experience with horses as mentioned is negligible, however I did grow up around them from the age of 4 onwards and then was blessed with a pony of my own around the ages of 11/12 in which I cared for almost entirely on my own and competed weekly in the summer time doing 50/60/70cm show jumping.
In my adult life, I have been on a few horse excursions abroad. I have pet sat ponies on a couple of occasions in which I could maybe get a reference if requested.
I am a confident rider and especially like forward going and green horses.
Dressage didn’t interest me as a kid, I just wanted to gallop around and jump but now that I am older, I would really like to work on my technique so an opportunity to ride and to have lessons would be amazing.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am responsible and always up for trying new things. I like to please and let people relax knowing I have everything under control. I am caring and would always have the animals wellbeing in mind. I am independent and enjoy being on my own but can work well in a team also. I have never clipped or plaited but would be more than willing to learn.
I love to drive, I have an A2 motorcycle license and would be willing to get my lorry licenses. I am also a certified service technician so I can turn my hand at vehicle maintenance. I would also like an opportunity to try agricultural work too like cutting grass and bailing hay etc if possible.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
Their smell. Only joking, though I do love it. I enjoy riding and giving them a nice work life balance. I like to see them relaxing in their field after competitions and giving them a great big bed to sleep in and a delicious bucket of slop to sink their teeth into.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve? My riding abilities and also turnout skills such as plaiting and clipping.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Because I am young and eager to please. I have spent nearly 7 years in a fast paced, skill based environment that wasn’t even something I was particularly interested in to begin with so I believe I could go even further with horses. I am hard working, practical and easy going with no other commitments so pay me your money and set me to work!
