Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have worked with horses for a number of years in a variety of professional environments, giving me a broad range of practical experience. I started my career as an apprentice with Sam Ecroyd Eventing, where I learned the importance of high standards of horse care, fitness, competition preparation and yard management. After moving away, I returned to freelance as a travelling groom for both Sam Ecroyd and Emily King, travelling to competitions and providing day-to-day support with horse care, turnout, tacking up and ensuring the horses were presented to the highest standard.
I have also worked in a riding school, gaining experience with horses of all ages, temperaments and abilities, as well as working with clients and maintaining a busy yard. I then spent two years working for respected Welsh Section A & B producer Colin Tibbey, where I developed my knowledge of breeding, producing, showing and preparing youngstock.
For a period, I also managed my own yard, taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of the yard, horse welfare, organising routines, maintaining facilities and ensuring everything operated efficiently. Alongside this, I currently own and produce my own Welsh Section D youngsters for in-hand showing, which has further developed my skills in handling, training and presenting young horses.
My experience has made me adaptable, reliable and capable of working independently or as part of a team. I am confident handling horses in a wide variety of situations and pride myself on maintaining high standards of care, organisation and professionalism. After spending the last few years in a corporate role, I am now looking to return to the equine industry and build a career doing what I am most passionate about.

Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
What I enjoy most about working with horses is building a relationship with them and watching their progress over time. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the results of consistent care, patience and hard work, whether that’s producing a young horse, preparing one for competition or simply helping them reach their full potential.
I take great pride in maintaining high standards of horse welfare and presentation, and I genuinely enjoy every aspect of yard life, from the day-to-day routine to the excitement of competitions and shows. I enjoy working as part of a team but am equally happy working independently and taking responsibility for the horses in my care.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I believe there is always something new to learn when working with horses, and I’m keen to continue developing my skills. I’d like to gain more experience producing young horses under saddle and broaden my knowledge across different disciplines. I also enjoy learning from experienced professionals and welcome constructive feedback, as I believe continual learning is key to becoming the best horsewoman I can be.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I believe I offer a unique combination of extensive hands-on equestrian experience and valuable commercial expertise. Having worked in professional eventing yards, a riding school, with a respected Welsh pony producer, as a freelance travelling groom, and managing my own yard, I understand the commitment, attention to detail and high standards required to care for horses at every level.
Alongside my equine background, I have spent the last few years building a successful career in the corporate world, developing strong skills in business management, administration, finance, marketing and business growth. I understand how successful businesses operate, from maintaining accurate records and managing budgets to building client relationships, improving efficiency and supporting long-term growth. These are skills that can add real value to any equestrian business, not just in the yard but behind the scenes as well.
I’m hardworking, reliable and take pride in everything I do. I work well under pressure, use my initiative, and always maintain exceptionally high standards of horse welfare and presentation. Whether I’m caring for horses, representing a business at competitions or helping improve day-to-day operations, I approach every task with professionalism and enthusiasm.
Most importantly, I genuinely love this industry. Returning to the equine world isn’t a career change for me—it’s returning to where I know I belong. I want to combine my passion for horses with the business skills I’ve gained to become a real asset to an employer, contributing both in the yard and to the overall success of the business.
