Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have over 15 years of experience working with and owning horses, having grown up on my family’s endurance yard. From a young age, I was involved in all aspects of horse care, management, training, and competition, developing a strong foundation in horsemanship and equine welfare.
I have competed in endurance riding at a high level since the age of 14, progressing through the ranks to FEI 2* competition. This has given me extensive knowledge of horse fitness, conditioning, nutrition, rehabilitation, injury prevention, and performance management, as well as the commitment and attention to detail required to maintain horses at peak performance.
For the past nine months, I have been working in Australia as a professional FEI endurance rider, combining competition riding with a wide range of stud and yard responsibilities. My role has included exercising and conditioning horses, monitoring and maintaining high standards of equine welfare, feeding and nutrition management, grooming, handling young and competition horses, general yard duties, and assisting with the day-to-day running of the operation.
I have also taken on team leader responsibilities, helping to coordinate staff, organise daily tasks, and ensure horses receive consistent, high-quality care. In addition, I hold a Level 3 Diploma in Equine Rehabilitation and a Level 5 Diploma in Human Rehabilitation, which have further strengthened my understanding of biomechanics, injury prevention, recovery, conditioning, and overall welfare for both horses and people.
I am confident working independently, managing multiple priorities, and maintaining a calm and professional approach in fast-paced environments. My passion for horses, strong work ethic, and commitment to excellent horse care have been central to every role I have undertaken.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am particularly strong at working both independently and as part of a team. Having worked in professional equestrian environments and taken on team leader responsibilities, I am confident organising workloads, prioritising tasks, and ensuring high standards are maintained while supporting those around me.
My strengths include handling and riding a wide variety of horses, including young horses, competition horses, and stallions. With my endurance background, I have extensive experience in horse fitness, conditioning, rehabilitation, and monitoring equine welfare. I am confident assessing horses’ wellbeing, recognising changes in condition, and adapting management accordingly.
I am experienced in all aspects of yard and stud work, including feeding, grooming, turnout, rug changes, exercising, administering routine treatments, and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment. I also take responsibility for clipping the competition horses, ensuring they are presented professionally and managed appropriately throughout the season.
In addition to my practical horse experience, my qualifications in Equine Rehabilitation and Human Rehabilitation have given me a strong understanding of biomechanics, injury prevention, recovery, and performance management. I am highly organised, able to work under pressure, and enjoy taking responsibility while contributing positively to a team environment.
Above all, I am reliable, hardworking, and genuinely passionate about horse welfare and achieving the highest standards of care.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
What I enjoy most about working with horses is building a partnership with them and seeing the results of consistent care, training, and management. I find it incredibly rewarding to help horses develop, whether that is improving their fitness and performance, supporting their rehabilitation, or simply ensuring they are happy, healthy, and thriving in their daily routine.
Having spent most of my life around horses, I enjoy the variety that comes with working in the industry. No two days are the same, and I appreciate the responsibility, problem-solving, and attention to detail that horse care requires. I particularly enjoy working towards competition goals, being part of a successful team, and seeing the progress that comes from hard work and dedication.
Above all, I am passionate about horse welfare and take great satisfaction in knowing that the horses in my care are receiving the highest standard of management, attention, and support.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I am always looking to expand my knowledge and continue developing my skills within the equine industry. In particular, I would like to gain further experience in leadership and yard management roles, building on the team leader responsibilities I have already undertaken.
I am also keen to continue learning from experienced professionals across different disciplines and training systems, as I believe there is always something new to learn when working with horses. Continuing to develop my practical skills, horsemanship, and understanding of equine performance and rehabilitation is important to me, and I enjoy challenging myself to become a more knowledgeable and well-rounded horsewoman.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Employers should consider me because I bring a combination of extensive practical experience, professional qualifications, and a genuine passion for horse welfare and performance. Having grown up on a family endurance yard and competed up to FEI 2* level, I have over 15 years of hands-on experience caring for, training, and competing horses.
Over the past nine months, I have worked in Australia as a professional FEI endurance rider, where I have combined competition riding with stud work, yard management responsibilities, horse conditioning, clipping, and team leadership. This experience has taught me the importance of hard work, reliability, adaptability, and maintaining high standards in a professional environment.
In addition, my Level 3 Diploma in Equine Rehabilitation and Level 5 Diploma in Human Rehabilitation provide me with a strong understanding of biomechanics, conditioning, injury prevention, and recovery. I am confident working independently, leading others when required, and remaining calm and organised under pressure.
Most importantly, I am dedicated, trustworthy, and genuinely care about the horses in my care. I take pride in my work, have a strong attention to detail, and am always willing to go the extra mile to ensure horses receive the highest standard of care and management.
