Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I learnt to ride from the age of 3 and when i was 7 spent full days at my local riding school and at the age of 14 I gave beginner lessons. I went to university down in Essex at Writtle University College and gained my BSc in Equine Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation, in which I got a keen interest in hydrotherapy. During the summer of 2022 I worked at Coldharbour Grazing where i worked with a varient of horses from youngstock to fit competition horses. They also had a hydrotherapy facility there which first peaked my interest in the hydrotherapy side. I have since completing my studies travelled to New Zealand to work in polo and managing and sole charge of up to 17 horses. while I was out in new zealand i spent 4 month working on the oldest thoroughbred stud farms in new zealand learning about foal handling and care of broodmares. Which leads me up to today where I’m head groom for up to 18 polo horses which range from breakers to top playing ponies for the Ainsley Saddlery team.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
My vast background in the equine industry have given me skills in sole charge, team work, handling young horses, bringing horses back in to work, equine physiotherapy, bandaging, turning out and medical management
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy being around horses and experiencing their individual quirks and adapting how you wor with them due to their quirks. I’ve always believed in the welfare of the horse and making sure they get everything they need to thrive competitively and in general.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
My plaiting and clipping skills are sub par as ive never had a job which required this and also i can ride but ill never say I’m top level as growing up in riding schools there are some things they dont teach you and i didnt buy my own till i was 18 and it was all my own money so could never afford constant lessons.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I’m hardworker and always up to learning something new and I love a challenge. Im not one to complain without a genuine reason and i always try my hardest to please
