Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have worked with horses throughout my life, having been raised in an equestrian family where riding, training and horse care were part of everyday life. I trained my first horse when I was 14 years old and went on to represent the England AQHA Youth Western Riding Team on two occasions.

As the owner and founder of Baybees Riding School in Luxembourg for 12 years, I was responsible for every aspect of the business. This included coaching children and adults of all abilities, schooling and retraining horses, matching horses to riders, organising competitions and events, overseeing horse welfare, liaising with veterinarians and farriers, managing staff, and running all administrative and operational aspects of the riding school.

Throughout my career, I have trained numerous horses for riding school work, competition and sale. I have experience working with horses of different ages, temperaments and abilities, using a patient and sympathetic approach to build confidence and develop each horse to its full potential.

Alongside my practical riding and coaching experience, I have strong organisational and communication skills developed through managing a successful equestrian business. I enjoy working collaboratively with colleagues, owners and clients, and I am passionate about producing confident horses, capable riders and a positive learning environment.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

My key strengths include retraining and schooling horses, particularly young, sensitive and former racehorses, using a calm, patient and sympathetic approach. I am confident exercising horses both on the flat and in a variety of environments, including hacking, pole work, lunging and groundwork.

I have extensive experience coaching children and adults of all abilities, helping riders build confidence and improve their skills. Having owned and managed my own riding school for 12 years, I am equally comfortable working independently or leading and supporting a team. I am organised, reliable and able to prioritise the welfare of both horses and riders while managing a busy daily schedule.

I am experienced in clipping, plaiting, preparing horses for competition, administering routine horse care, liaising with veterinarians and farriers, and overseeing the day-to-day management of a riding school. I have trained horses for riding school work, competition and sale.

In addition to my equestrian skills, I have strong administrative, organisational and customer service experience, including staff management, scheduling, event organisation, budgeting and business operations. These skills allow me to contribute effectively both in the yard and to the wider running of the equestrian centre.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

What I enjoy most is building a partnership with each horse and seeing them grow in confidence and ability. Every horse is different, and I find it incredibly rewarding to help them reach their potential through patient, consistent training. I also love sharing that passion with riders, helping them develop their skills and confidence while creating positive relationships with their horses.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I believe there is always something new to learn in the equestrian world. I am committed to continually improving my knowledge of horse training, rehabilitation and coaching by learning from experienced professionals and adapting my approach as new techniques and research emerge. I see continuous development as an important part of being the best horsewoman and coach I can be.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I bring a combination of lifelong hands-on horse experience, proven business leadership and a genuine passion for developing both horses and riders. Having owned and managed a successful riding school for 12 years, I understand the importance of horse welfare, customer service, teamwork and maintaining high professional standards. I am hardworking, adaptable and always willing to go the extra mile. My recent experience retraining former Hong Kong Jockey Club Thoroughbreds also gives me a strong understanding of the type of horses you work with and the patient, structured approach needed to help them transition successfully into new careers.
