Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I am an Animal Science graduate with over two years of hands-on professional experience working with horses at a stud farm in the Philippines. I currently work as a Horse Handler and Medicator, caring for a diverse group of approximately 66 horses, including breeding mares, stallions, riding horses, weanlings, and yearlings.

My experience includes daily horse handling, grooming, feeding, exercising, lunging, riding in the round pen and on trail rides, administering oral, topical, and injectable medications, monitoring horse health, assisting veterinarians, maintaining treatment records, and supporting routine vaccinations, deworming, and preventive care. I also have experience assisting with the breeding program involving Quarter Horses, Arabian Horses, and Thoroughbreds, including caring for broodmares and assisting during foaling season.

I am comfortable working with horses of different ages and temperaments and understand the importance of safety, patience, consistency, and good horse welfare. I am hardworking, physically fit, reliable, willing to learn, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. I am now looking to gain international experience and further develop my career in the equine industry.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I am particularly good at hands-on horse care and handling, working both independently and as part of a team. I am experienced in handling horses of different ages and temperaments, including stallions, mares, foals, weanlings, yearlings, and riding horses. I am confident with grooming, exercising, lunging, riding in the round pen and on trail rides, administering medications, monitoring horse health, and assisting with breeding and foaling.

I am also comfortable with physically demanding work, maintaining clean and organized stables, following routines and instructions, and responding calmly to situations involving horses. One of my strengths is being patient and observant, which helps me recognize changes in a horse’s behavior or condition and report concerns promptly. I am reliable, hardworking, willing to learn, and adaptable to new methods and working environments.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

What I enjoy most about working with horses is building a good relationship with them and being involved in their daily care and development. I enjoy handling, grooming, exercising, and caring for horses while making sure they are healthy, comfortable, and well cared for. I also enjoy the responsibility that comes with working with horses, especially during breeding and foaling seasons and when caring for young stock.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would like to continue improving my horsemanship, horse handling, and practical knowledge of equine health, training, and management. I am always willing to learn new techniques and adapt to different systems and standards. I believe there is always something new to learn when working with horses, and I am eager to gain experience from experienced horsemen and professionals.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I believe employers should consider me because I am hardworking, reliable, adaptable, and genuinely passionate about working with horses. I have hands-on experience as a horse handler and medicator, including daily horse care, administering medications, health monitoring, grooming, exercise, breeding assistance, and caring for broodmares, foals, weanlings, and yearlings. I am comfortable with physical work, willing to learn, and understand the importance of horse welfare, teamwork, and following instructions. Most importantly, I am committed to developing my career in the equine industry and would bring a strong work ethic and positive attitude to the team.
