Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have been riding since the age of 2 and attended Pony Club and pony camps throughout my childhood. I owned my first horse at the age of 9 and have continued to gain experience with horses ever since. At 19/20, I had two horses on full loan, and I currently own my own horse.
I am confident and experienced in handling, grooming, tacking up, feeding, mucking out, and general horse care. I am also comfortable turning horses out and bringing them in and understand the importance of maintaining a clean, safe and well-organised yard.
Although I have not undertaken freelance yard work, I have gained extensive practical experience through caring for my own horses. I am reliable, hardworking and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. I am also willing to learn and develop my skills further
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am confident working both independently and as part of a team, and I take pride in getting tasks completed efficiently and on time. I am experienced in turning horses out and bringing them in, plaiting, and handling young horses. I am calm, patient and confident when working with horses of different ages and temperaments.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
What I enjoy most about working with horses is caring for them and making sure they are happy, healthy and properly looked after. I particularly enjoy building a bond with each horse and gaining their trust, as I find developing a good relationship with them very rewarding.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would also like to further develop my skills in clipping and gain more experience working with stallions. I am keen to learn, take guidance well and build my confidence and experience in these areas.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Employers should consider me because I am reliable, hardworking and genuinely passionate about working with horses. I have many years of hands-on experience caring for and handling horses, and I am confident carrying out everyday yard duties such as mucking out, feeding, grooming, tacking up, turning out and bringing in.
I work well both independently and as part of a team, and I take pride in completing tasks to a high standard and on time. I am also keen to learn and develop my skills further, particularly in areas such as clipping and working with stallions. I am patient, responsible and always put the care and welfare of the horses first.
