Future Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would love to work on a small private family yard, preferably a solo position. Alternatively happy to work in a team. I have done my time on busy fast pace competition yards and would really like a yard with a consistent routine. I’ve been self employed for the last few years so looking for an employed position.
• Do you need accommodation?
yes, for me and my 2 year old cocker spaniel. Also my partner occasionally, he works away most of the time. Only home 7/10 days a month.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
Well behaved 2 year old cocker spaniel.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
No.
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
No.
Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I began working on busy yards from the age of 11. Working with and riding top competition horses. At 16 I started my apprenticeship with a 5* event rider in Buckinghamshire, I later became her live in travel groom. I have experienced working away with top event horses, often 5 or 6 at away events. I did all normal yard duties at home, including the care of brood mares and foals. I have very high standards for show turn out, including plaiting, clipping and mane and tail pulling. I have work led with young horses on the ground and under saddle. Also difficult fit competition horses including stallions. I have also owned and produced my own horses. Starting with show ponies then eventing up to BE Novice.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I’ve very competent working on my own. I take great pride in my turn out skills, not only the horses but the yard and equipment. I have experience with stallions and brood mares, I have assisted the birth of many foals. I’m confident with young or difficult horses. I have also been a private family nanny for 7 years. I help organise a busy family house hold, including house keeping, cooking and pet care.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love the consistency of a routine. Im very fit and strong so like the manual work, even winters! They are my passion and have been since a small child.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I strive to excellence where I can, in the past going above and beyond to work in top environments. In the last few years of being fully self employed, I’m now looking to be able to have a more sustainable work life balance and enjoy a more manageable work load.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I take great pride in my work and use my knowledge and experience to help make other lives run smoothly. I’m very time efficient and punctual with my work. I’ve worked with horses animals long enough to know it’s not a 9-5 job and certain times of the year require extra graft. I have a deep passion for caring for animals and get great satisfaction from providing that.
