Horses have been part of my life since the day I was born so have always played a big role in my life! I started off show jumping on 128’s then from 11-18 I mostly did mounted games. Competing internationally, including hoys, representing England in multiple countries and most of all doing it with my ponies I trained from scratch. Since retiring my games pony I have gone back down the show jumping route with my own home produced mare. Presentation of my ponies is a huge thing for me and I always like them to look the best wherever they are! I have always loved and looked after my own alongside my mum. I can clip, plait, present to a high standard, keep stables/yard immaculate etc etc.

Between all this I have freelanced for a few big and small yards while I had commitments restricting me from going full time. However I am now ready to go out on my own and love someone else’s horses like my own.

 

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I can confidently say yes to all of the above, always happy to work in a team or alone, have always clipped, plaited and presented my own horses and ponies for shows. Have handled stallions including our home bred. Have always had young horses and helped my sister (dressage rider) back and produce 3yo’s.

I have worked in agriculture for the past 3 years doing a variety of jobs but mostly working on an indoor finishing pig unit for 18 months. Alongside and around this, I have worked a few other jobs, such as calf rearing, relief milking and lambing. Last winter, I went to Western Australia on a chaser bin (grain kart) and completed my first harvest out there! Since coming home I started off part time for a small private family ran holiday home site! Cleaning and making sure the homes/log cabins were ready for guest arrivals as well as keeping the gardens/outside facilities maintained and presentable! Following on from this I continued to chase my dreams and started for an agricultural/equestrian contractor – this predominantly included equine fencing, construction and a lot of hay making!! So I have also done a lot of tractor driving, including muck trailer, muck spreading, slurry tanking, topping, mowing, tedding, raking, baling, wrapping, harrowing, rolling and bale carting.

I have also worked as a nanny to 2 young girls, picking up from school, cooking dinner, getting homework done etc etc. Getting ponies ready to ride and help their mum with all the other animals and random jobs around the house!

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses? Day to day loving of them and seeing the horses I look after compete with others and doing well.

 

• Is there anything you’d like to improve? Knowledge of other disciplines.

 

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker? My age often puts people off however I have a lot more experience with all sorts than most my age, neither of my parents ever restricted me because I was a girl. I have always covered a variety of jobs to keeping adding strings to my bow! And allow me to keep my door open to any opportunity.
