Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job, please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have a history of being around horses from as far back as I can remember until about 16 years old; unfortunately, I had to stop riding due to money and the sport dying out here in SA. I’m now 22 and have ridden and still been around horses a good amount of time but not nearly as much as I’d like. I would groom, ride my leased horses, keep the school ponies fit, muck out, and help groom/turn out for shows. I have ridden the majority of disiplines ranging from show jumping to natural horsemanship to western; I have ridden horses as young as 3 to much older horses in their 20s, all types of breeds and temperaments.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I’m good at working alone or working with others, handling all horses, riding most horses/younger horses, turning out for shows, grooming, mucking out, tacking up, lunging and can brush up on my plaiting. I have a lot of first aid and fire training experience.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

I find them so interesting and entertaining to be around; they have been my whole life, building relationships with them, figuring out their unique personalities. The feeling of riding horses is like no other.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

I would love to improve on backing/training young horses, riding in any way I can always improve, becoming a better groom and go more in depth on running a yard/owning horses.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

What sets me apart is that my interest in the equine world comes from a genuine love of horses and years of riding experience. Although I am continuing to build my professional experience within the industry, horses have always been something I feel naturally passionate about, and I am eager to turn that passion into a career. I understand that working with horses is about far more than riding and I genuinely enjoy the care, routine and hard work that comes with being around them. I am a quick learner, willing to get stuck in and eager to learn from experienced people in the industry. I would bring enthusiasm, reliability, a strong work ethic and, most importantly, genuine care and dedication to the horses and the people around me.
