Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I don’t have any formal horse qualifications or professional competition-yard experience. My yard work experience has been general day-to-day care working part time on a livery yard for 2.5 years (October 2022-January 2025)
I have, however, learnt a lot through managing and training my own horse through my own research, instructors and experience.
I have basic knowledge of clipping, bathing, mane and tail preparation, lunging, bandaging, packing for stayaways with my own horse who I’ve had for 6 Years. I’ve competed her in low level showjumping both affiliated and unaff.
I haven’t done professional show preparation, packed wagons for a competition yard before or plaited however I’m keen to learn.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
Having worked on a competition livery yard and having my own horse on DIY I’d say I’m particularly good at the general day to day care of horses – Mucking out, haynets, turnout & bring in etc.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy the practical side of horse care from daily routines and grooming to preparing for competitions and being involved at competitions.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
Id like to improve my experience in professional competition yards. Particularly show preparation, plaiting, clipping, packing wagons, travelling to compete and riding.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I am passionate about building a career with horses and bring over six years of hands-on experience with my own horse, alongside previous yard experience. I am hardworking, reliable, eager to learn and committed to developing my skills within the equine industry.
