Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have ridden horses throughout my life and have gained a wide range of experience across the equine industry, including working on racing, showjumping and eventing yards. I previously ran a backing and producing business alongside my mother, where I gained extensive experience handling, backing, schooling and developing young and inexperienced horses. I currently showjump and event my six-year-old, whom I backed and have produced myself from the beginning. I pride myself on maintaining a very high standard of horse care and turnout, with confident skills in all aspects of day-to-day yard work, grooming, plaiting and clipping. I am comfortable working with a variety of horses and always prioritise their individual welfare, management and presentation.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
All of the above, my extensive experience makes me multi diverse to all aspects listed
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy working with horses because no two horses are the same, and I find it incredibly rewarding getting to know each horse as an individual and helping them develop both physically and mentally. I particularly enjoy producing younger horses, building their confidence and seeing the progress that comes from consistent, patient work. I also really enjoy the day-to-day care side of working with horses and take pride in keeping them happy, healthy and turned out to a high standard. For me, working with horses is something I have always genuinely loved, and I enjoy both the responsibility and the sense of achievement that comes with bringing out the best in them.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I am always looking at new ways to improve my current skills as to how my employer would appreciate
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Employers should choose me because I combine a genuine lifelong passion for horses with practical experience across several areas of the equine industry. I am confident handling a wide range of horses, including young and inexperienced ones, and I have experience in racing, showjumping and eventing yards. Having backed and produced horses myself, I am patient, observant and able to adapt my approach to suit each individual horse. I am also hardworking, reliable and take a lot of pride in maintaining very high standards of care, turnout and presentation. I am happy working independently or as part of a team and would bring a strong work ethic, attention to detail and genuine commitment to any yard I worked on.
