Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
Brought up on a farm and around horses, recently working in dairy
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I’m particularly good at practical, hands-on work and I’m equally comfortable working independently or as part of a team. I’m reliable, physically fit, calm around animals and used to taking responsibility and getting on with the job without needing constant supervision.
My background includes extensive livestock work, so I’m confident handling animals, recognising changes in behaviour or condition, maintaining high welfare standards and working safely around large animals. I have a genuine interest in horses and am keen to develop my equine skills further.
I’m also very practical outside of animal work. I’m a qualified plumber/pipefitter with experience in general maintenance, fencing, machinery, tractors, telehandlers, water systems and grounds work. I’m happy turning my hand to repairs, yard maintenance, cleaning, feeding, fencing and whatever else needs doing.
I’m dependable, not afraid of early starts or long days, and I take pride in leaving animals, equipment and the workplace properly looked after.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
What I most enjoy about working with horses is building trust with them and getting to know their individual personalities. I enjoy the hands-on side of the work—handling, feeding, grooming, exercising and making sure they are healthy, comfortable and well cared for.
I’m naturally an outdoor, practical person and enjoy being around animals. I particularly like the satisfaction that comes from gaining a horse’s confidence and seeing the results of consistent, patient handling. I’m also very happy with the less glamorous side of yard work; keeping things clean, organised and safe is just as important to good horse care.
For me, working with horses is rewarding because every day is different, there is always something more to learn, and you can see the difference that good stockmanship and attention to detail make.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
Refresh of riding
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
Employers should consider me because I bring a combination of maturity, reliability, practical ability and a genuine willingness to work hard. I’m comfortable working independently, but equally enjoy being part of a team and helping wherever I’m needed.
My background has taught me discipline, responsibility and the importance of doing a job properly, even when nobody is watching. I’m practical, hands-on and used to working outdoors in all conditions, with extensive experience around livestock and farm environments.
Most importantly, I genuinely enjoy working with animals. I’m patient, calm and willing to learn, and I don’t have an ego about the job. Whether it’s handling horses, mucking out, maintenance, fencing or simply getting stuck into the everyday jobs that keep a yard running, I’ll give the same effort and attention to all of it.
I’m dependable, adaptable and not afraid of hard work. An employer would be getting someone who turns up, gets involved and takes pride in doing the job well.
