Experience with Horses

Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.

I have lots of varied horsey experience, grew up riding and competing mainly showjumping locally, volunteered at a RDA for all of my teens, have a degree in Equine Sport Science from the University of Lincoln, had various groom’s roles then a ten year career in project management, most recently I have been in Australia working on a thoroughbred stud preparing the yearlings for sale and then at a cattle stud caring for stock horses, mustering on horseback and preparing for camp drafts.

Key Skills

What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc

I have a one point or another; groomed at away shows, clipped, plaited, worked alone and with others, handled young horses, ridden young horses and have also gained a lot of business/operational/admin/people management skills but I can tailor myself to the needs of a role.

Strengths and Weaknesses

• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?

Building trust and relationships with each horse, making sure they receive optimal care so they can perform and feel at their best.

• Is there anything you’d like to improve?

Whilst in Australia I started to learn to tow trailers and drive lorries and I would like to continue in the UK and gain my license.

• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?

I can bring maturity and reliability to the role, have a lot of world/life experience which helps me fit in to teams/people’s lifestyles easily and I  pick things up quickly.
