Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I have worked with horses since I was a teenager. After university I took the time to work with horses full-time and never stopped. I have a wide experience of the industry, from riding schools and therapy settings, to racing, competition, carriage driving and sales yards. I am currently a freelance groom, I have a few regular clients and one main client who is leaving her current premises and moving out of my area, I also clip regularly for a number of clients. I have my BHS stage three complete horsemanship qualification and have worked towards my stage four.
I have an undergraduate degree in Physical Geography and a mastera degree in Sustainability Consultancy.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I work well alone but often find myself in a leadership role as I naturally motivate people and have an eye for detail and delegating to people’s strengths. The variety of yards and set ups I’ve experienced means I have learnt a lot about what works and what doesn’t and bring a lot of experience to a role but I am always looking to learn new ways to do things or things I’ve never seen before, I thrive on learning and improving my self so I can do a better job.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I enjoy the repeatative nature of the routine on a yard, coupled with the opportunity to think on my feet when things don’t go to plan as they often do when working with animals! I pride my self on running a tidy yard full of happy content horses.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I am interested in learning new things, especially always new techniques for rehab or more veterinary based tasks.
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
The range of experience I bring and my thirst for knowledge is an interesting combination that I feel is an asset to most yards. I am also a perfectionist with an eye for detail and pride my self on helping to make sure a yard runs smoothly, is always tidy and everyone is happy.
