Experience
Yard Manager/Rider, LG Dawson Racing — 2018-Present
This is my current job, here my main responsibilities include the smooth day to day running of a point to point yard. I manage a yard of 12 horses and another member of staff. I am responsible for their daily care as well as their individual fitness and training programmes. I ensure all our horses are in top condition and of good health while changing their diet/exercise accordingly. I transport the horses around the country for competitions and training. I prepare all horses for racing ensuring they are turned out to a high standard and accompany them on race days. My duties also include schooling and jumping the horses and working alongside our osteopath for rehab work. I have also done a lot of work in the retraining of racehorses and producing them up the levels in BSJA.
Groom/Rider for Adrian Speight Showjumping – 2020 (lockdown)
Here I was head groom and rider at a showjumping/producing yard during Covid, my main duties included grooming for Adrian and the daily care and exercising of his horses. During my time here I helped with the breaking and starting of youngsters including being the first rider onboard.
Head Groom/Rider, Dealing and Sales Yard — 2015-2016
My daily responsibilities in this role included general care of all horses, exercising them and reviewing new horses we had in to sell. I also dealt with the advertising of sales horses and managed all business related social media. My most important role here was matching horses to potential buyers. I prepared horses for viewings and showed them off to the best of their ability. I often worked alone with sole charge of the yard.
