  • Live in needed with well behaved male bull lurcher required to move with me.

I am a highly motivated, adaptable and responsible young adult that has always been told I have a warming, caring and friendly persona and I am able to adapt to working with different people. I have always had a love for animals and have wanted to pursue some form of career with that passion. I have had experience working in fast-paced, high-pressure environments over long periods of time and I consider myself as a team-player with a positive, can-do attitude.

I am a compassionate employee, and can provide an exceptional level of care working to maintain horse’s welfare to the highest standard.

I have been riding for just 3 years, and I have only done work on a variety of different yards, that has still allowed me to ride a huge range of horses, all at different levels (youngsters, hunters, 3 and 4* eventers, thoroughbreds, ex-racehorses and showjumpers) which has helped my riding ability greatly. I am an empathetic rider, confident around new horses and do not get nervous sitting on them for the first time.

MY WORK EXPERIENCE

GROOM DECEMBER 2018-APRIL 2024

• Horses turned out and cared for to the highest standard. They get treated as if they are my own.

• Flexible in my skills; changing how I work to fit the different types of horses and yards.

• Basic equine first aid skills, ie. cleanly and effectively assisting a vet, changing dressings, cleaning wounds, applying ointments and antibiotics. Assisting in the in-hand walking/lunging/riding as part of their rehabilitation programme.

• Administer daily cleaning and maintenance of equestrian equipment, including tack, saddles, bridles and boots to guarantee proper working order and immaculate condition (check for no loose stitching or torn leather etc).

• Prepare horses for hunting up to 4 times a week: bathing, trimming, plaiting (using bands) and tacking up (while checking it is fitted correctly) to a high standard and attention to detail.

• Do horses off after hunting: untacking, washing off, checking for any injuries, bandaging and tack cleaning.

• Lead horses to and from stables and fields, giving my complete focus to minimise potential injury while also checking the fields (fencing, gates, plants, shelter etc).

• Wash and brush horses using shampoos and grooming brushes, ensuring a healthy coat and skin.

• Muck out stables and then replace bedding in thoroughly cleaned stalls within a certain timeframe (6 stables in around 90 minutes, shavings and straw beds).

• Keep the yard and surrounding areas neat and tidy.

• Stick to daily exercise routines to help maintain strength, stamina and endurance.

• Perform the daily feeding of horses, following a strict schedule alongside the stud groom to ensure each horse has their optimal nutrient intake.

• Care for stabled and field kept horses, assessing the suitability of stabling and grassland environments.

• I’ve briefly attempted to clip a very quiet horse, and had no issues but will have to further my training in this.

MY RIDING EXPERIENCE

• I can ride a variety of horses (youngsters, ex-racehorses, thoroughbreds, eventers, hunters and riding school horses)

• I can school a horse nicely on the flat and can confidently jump a series of fences at about 80/85cm

• I am happy doing fast-paced ridden exercise (canter tracks or open fields).

• I am comfortable with riding and leading, whilst doing roadwork or canterwork.

• I am able to lunge a horse as required (have only lunged in a bridle and saddle so not familiar with cavessons, rollers or side reins)

• I am a lightweight rider, with very soft hands and big confidence!

OTHER SKILLS

EVENTS ASSISTANT: JUNE 2017 – OCTOBER 2018

• Stable manager: greeting customers on arrivals day, checking them in and showing them around. Deal with any queries or issues efficiently and in a friendly manner.

• Retail: selling shavings and merchandise to customers and dealing with payments through a variety of different ways. Allocate the products to the correct location in a timely manner.

• Ring steward: directing competitors, ensuring they enter the rings at the correct time to minimise potential injuries, whilst being in constant communication with the judges. Updates via tannoid, so must be confident, polite, friendly and organized. This position taught me how to deescalate situations (dealing with problems involving parents). Required a firm but patient manner.

• Showground photographer: used photographic equipment with precise timing to capture clear and specific images of competitors in the ring which will then be available for purchase.

• Dressage writer: working closely with judges so must be polite and confident, recording comments and scores quickly and clearly without spelling mistakes.

• Administrator: assisted with all administrative chores, including filing, printing and collecting competitor packs.

• I am a confident, outgoing young woman, who is happy working alone or as part of a team. I am extremely hardworking and self-motivated with experience being reliable and punctual for multiple organisations.

• I enjoy meeting new people and trying new things. Once I get into the routine at a company, you will start to see me excel and I will be a very useful member of the team.

• For 3 years, I worked on a very busy hunt yard, and feel the skills that I have attained can be reciprocated into my next equine job and my experiences will only make me a better worker.

• I’m quick at learning and try my best in everything I do. I never leave work without asking myself what I could of done better.

• I have very good communication skills as within all of my previous roles I was expected to work and communicate with a range of different people with different personalities and backgrounds on a daily basis. I have worked at places involving people aged 10-65.

• I have relatively good computer skills.

• Time management skills are very good, as I am used to working in a very busy, professional setting.

• I am reliable when it comes to showing up for work, and I can cope with hard work over long hours. I will not leave the yard until it’s tidy and all horses are brushed, watered, skipped out, fed and checked over.

• I have very good people skills and I am able to adapt my personality and the way I speak and portray myself according to who I am interacting with.

• I completed my NVQ Level 2 Equine Care (Non-Riding) Qualification. Would like to do my Stage 3 at some point but would fund it myself.
