• Experience with Horses

25 years sole charge hunt groom for private owner…. total care of up.to 5 hunters.. hunting 2 horses 2 or 3x per week.. dealing with feed orders, vet, farrier.. driving 2nd horse lorry..fittening work, exercise thro season, single and ride/ lead… plaiting and clipping for hunting..

 

25 polo seasons ,mostly high goal teams in UK , US  and France .. on a team base or single players,.. fittening, riding sets or singles, total care of up to 6 ponies, prepare and groom at matches,

 

2 TB breeding seasons on a TB stud ,  natural covering, mare and foals , helping with vet, sales prep..

 

1 season helping out on an event  , fast work on the gallops, hacking,  grooming at events up.to Burghley and Bleinham,  no set horses ..

 

Most recently, until July ’21.. 6 years ..sole charge competition groom for a dressage GP rider.. private yard,… only 2 ,sometimes 3, in work and competing.. dealing with feed orders, vet and farrier, total careof horses at home and at shows and all that entails.. occasionally driving the lorry..

 

Between , and now, freelancing work …

 

Helping on various yards, hunt, dressage, event and just happy hackers … yard work, bits of riding and schooling, cleaning tack on hunt days, going to the odd event or dressage with people who do everything on their own,

 

Had temp jobs at the B’s through the winters when my eventer was out and dressage horse was out in the herd .. only 3 …

 

Whilst at hunt job , helped a friend with her mares and foals , getting ready for foal inspections and gradings, grooming on those days and driving the lorry..and going to dressage shows grooming for her..

 

Dressage competition grooming up to CDI level with stallions, so 1 day and stayaway shows ..

 

KEY SKILLS :

 

* Bandaging… exercise and stable and medicinal inc joints

* Equine first aid ..plus ST Johns first aider

* Exercising… polework, lunging, riding, ride and lead, flatwork, fastwork

* Show Prep.. clipping, bathing, plaiting ( and triming the bits we’re allowed)

*Tack up, warm up, cool down, wash down

* Organising lorry

* Competition grooming

 

REQUIREMENTS :

 

*Prefer a private yard.. or a REAL team yard .. but whichever it is important to me that myself and the rider are a  team and work together for the horses .. along with any other employees  on the same lines ..

* Prefer single live in .. mostly due to dog.. and I do like my own space..

* Prefer a competition groom job as not quite ready to hang up my ‘show bug’ yet .. if in a larger team need the real chance of going to shows as that is what I enjoy ..I like to see the outcome of the work ..

 

TAKE WITH :

 

*8 yr old ESS dog ..

*16h WB 19yr old gelding ..who once recovered from leg injury I would like to compete maybe 1x a month .. he would need to.be either stabled  at job or at least nearby..

 

COMMITMENTS :

 

My (now) house in Hereford is undergoing some renovation work which is taking longer than it should at this time.. so it may become necessary if not done by time brother goes to UAE I may have to go and ‘supervise’ .. as no one lives there since my mother died last year ..
