Experience with Horse:

I have several years of experience working with horses and ponies across a wide range of equestrian disciplines, including eventing, hunting, riding schools, the Light Cavalry and competition yards. Throughout my career, I have developed a broad range of practical skills and knowledge, working with horses both in hand and ridden.
I have worked on several different yards, both in a team and in sole-charge positions. I am confident managing the day-to-day running of a yard independently, maintaining high standards of horse care, completing daily duties efficiently and ensuring the horses’ needs are met. I am responsible, reliable and organised, and I understand the importance of making decisions, managing my time effectively and recognising when to seek advice or support

Yard Duties and Horse Care

I am experienced in all aspects of daily yard duties, including mucking out, making hay nets, filling water buckets, feeding, maintaining clean and tidy stables, grooming and tack cleaning. I am also confident with bathing, clipping, plaiting, pulling manes and tails, and preparing horses for competitions, shows, hunting and parades. I take pride in maintaining high standards of horse care, presentation and general yard management.

Riding and Exercise

I am a competent and experienced rider with a background in flatwork, schooling, jumping, hacking, lunging, using the horse walker and loose schooling. I have experience riding a wide variety of horses, from green and problem horses to experienced competition horses, fit hunters and five-star eventers. I am confident adapting my approach to suit each horse’s individual needs, temperament and level of training. Although I have experience in jumping, I am keen to continue developing my skills and improve to a higher standard.

Experience with Different Horses

Over the years, I have worked with a diverse range of horses and ponies, including youngsters, foals, stallions, broodmares, ex-racehorses, fit hunters, eventers, riding school horses and international carriage horses. I have experience assisting with the backing and bringing on of young horses, both in hand and ridden, and enjoy helping horses develop their confidence, education and ability.

Competition and Show Preparation

I have approximately two years of experience working on competition yards and preparing horses for events, including dressage, show jumping, eventing, hunting and parades. I have also been involved in preparing horses for the Lord Mayor’s Show. I have competed in in-house dressage and show jumping competitions at the Light Cavalry, Flemish Farm, achieving some good results. In addition, I competed in endurance riding for two seasons, achieving positive results and qualifying for the championships.

Teamwork and Yard Management

I am comfortable working independently, in sole-charge positions and as part of a team. I am also happy to take the lead and support other team members when required. I work to a high standard, am hardworking and reliable, and understand the importance of organisation, attention to detail and maintaining consistent standards of care. If I am ever unsure about a task or situation, I will always ask for guidance to ensure the horses’ welfare and safety remain the priority.

Administration and Customer Service

Alongside my practical horse experience, I have also gained experience with the administrative side of yard work, including answering telephone calls, completing paperwork and dealing professionally with clients and customers. I have a friendly, approachable manner and understand the importance of providing a welcoming and professional service.

I am passionate about working with horses, enjoy the variety and challenges of the equine industry, and am always keen to expand my knowledge and develop my skills further. I am also currently working towards my Class 1 licence to broaden my capabilities and future opportunities within the industry.
