Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I am an 18 year old student and I have been working and being around horses since I was very young, My parents ran a horse transporting business that I used to help with and I have been to various yards to work including Pen Llyn Lusitanos in Wales. I went there for a week and a bit learning how to muck out and groom horses to a high standard and worked with some of the stallions and young stock. I have also raised a shetland pony from a yearling and trained him to do liberty work. My riding isnt brilliant. I had a bad fall a year or two back so I can walk and trot, but I cannot canter yet.
I do not currently have my own horse and I am not employed at the moment, so i can start work as soon as possible.
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I am good with most kinds of horses. I can work well on my own or as part of a team. I am good at grooming, tacking up I can handle stallions, although I am not yet experienced enough to ride young horses. I can help with ground work with youngsters.
I can lunge and ride western. I havent done much clipping, but I am quite a fast learner. I also have a full UK driver’s license and I have experience with driving quad bikes and tractors. I have also studied as a mechanic, which is quite a useful skill to have.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I love working with horses because I have always been a horse lover since I was about 2 years old. I just love being around horses and working with them.
The only thing I would really like to improve my riding. As well as getting more experience and learning from other people and gaining more knowledge about horses and horse care.
I think I would be a good employee as I am a good listener and I really like talking to people and meeting new people and learning new things. I can work long hours and I have good housekeeping skills and I am good at working with other people or by myself. I think I am a good candidate also because I am young and I have finished college, and am not in a job. so I am free and I can start work almost instantly.
