Experience with Horses

I have maintained and cared for Horses for around 15+ years now. This includes 3 years as Head Groom at Essex and Suffolk Hunt;

Mucking out, turning in and out, trimming, bandaging, clipping, riding, handling youngsters, grooming, holding for vet/farrier, hacking out, prepping for shows (plaiting, bathing, trimming, clipping), being a show groom, breaking in youngsters, lunging, equine first aid, basic rider first aid, teaching children on Saturdays and pony days, sole charge of the yard.

Key Skills

Working alone, working with others, holding horses for vets/farrier, pulling manes and tails, grooming to a high standard, tacking up, riding, lunging, bandaging, general yard duties,

To excel in my role, i rely on a variety of skills. Organizational skills are crucial, as i need to manage multiple tasks and ensure that all aspects of horse care are covered. Strong attention to detail is essential for spotting any health issues or equipment problems early on.

Communication skills are also important, as i need to coordinate with other staff members and communicate effectively with the hunt members. This ensures that everyone is informed and that the horses receive the best possible care.

Physical fitness is a key requirement, as the role involves a lot of manual labour and time spent on my feet. I need to be able to handle the physical demands of the job, including lifting heavy equipment and working in all weather conditions.

A deep understanding of horse care and behaviour is essential. This knowledge allows me to provide the best care for the horses and to handle any issues that arise with confidence and competence.
