Experience with Horses
I have worked with many different types of horses that all have different job descriptions from young stock, breaking in, riding school horses, ex racing horses and caring for old stock. I’m confident with all breeds of horses and like to challenge myself with new opportunities in the future I have worked on a yard from a young age and have learned how to handle spooked and scared horses to keep everyone around me safe and of course the horses safety
Key Skills
I am practically good at working with inexperienced and young horses the last 5 years I have been producing young stock for a local breeder that a previous rider couldn’t. I approach a horse with knowing they are never the same as the last horse and knowing that being adjustable will help with their education. I have groomed at local shown to a good standard but would like to improve this if possible. I have shown to be good with yard organisation so that nothing is missed on a day to day basis and on how to log the horses improve and how to progress them further and what care is needed. I can work well by myself and good at timekeeping and how to be more efficient with tasks that take a lot of time out of the day.
Strengths and Weaknesses
• I like to spend the time on the yard to keep it to a high standard with both animal care and safety and hygiene within the stable and out of the stable to keep everything to stay at the high standard. I enjoy the hard work with stables needing mucked out and horses needing fed and fresh water given
• I would like to improve my skills in turnout and be able to clip to a high standard I haven’t had a chance to clip horses before as the horses I’ve worked with rarely needing clipped
• I am hard working and got the drive to succeed within this job I’m willing to spend extra hours to help my employer and the business be successful
Requirements
•I would like to increase my knowledge of horses and the horse world and to be at the best of ability in all aspects of the job and by looking and learning from others would help this
• I would need to find accommodation if it’s on site or offsite due to me living in Orkney
• I wouldn’t have any animals with me but I may look for a dog in the future
• I have a horse that is being rehabilitated after an injury that may need be moved in the future closer to my work
• I have no holidays or time off needed in the near future
