Experience with Horses
Outline your experience with horses here/the scope of your freelance services. If you’re looking for a non-equine or non- yard-based job please use this space to describe your experience skills/abilities and adapt the questions to suit your line of work.
I began spending time around horses on a friends yard and very quickly became confident with them and started riding one of their ponies, alongside I also had professional lessons 1-2 times a week and completed some stable management classes.
Soon after I had one of their ponies on full loan, alongside this I then started paid positions. The first yard I worked on was a small family yard offering full livery and sales. During my time at this yard it was mainly sole charge as I worked her alongside running my own dog walking/pet sitting business. I brought my own horse whilst working here however she was at another yard so I moved to then start working at a riding school/livery yard. Throughout both of these roles, they were both non ridden.
Running my dog walking/sitting business and also owning my own horse, I began to do some freelancing when my schedule allowed, usually consisting of morning/evening feeds and turn out/bringing in, mucking out and poo picking.
I love the non ridden aspects of working with horses, this is what I look forward to. With my own horses prior, we have always been hackers so my ridden skills are basic and have done small jumps in the past. However, I do have some experience handing youngsters and some spicy mares!
Key Skills
What are you particularly good at? For example: working alone, working with others, clipping, plaiting, turning out for shows, handling stallions, handling/riding young horses, non-equine skills etc
I work great within a team and independently. I do not have any experience of clipping and plaiting, but more than happy to learn and I am a fast learner!
Strengths and Weaknesses
• What do you most enjoy about working with horses?
I love being around them and I also love working outdoors, Come rain or shine.
• Is there anything you’d like to improve?
I would like to improve on both ridden/non ridden skills. I would love to learn how to clip & plait!
• Why should employers consider you above any other job seeker?
I’m a very hard worker and always give my all in everything that i do. I love any opportunities offered to me and always happy to help with anything. I believe I would make a great addition to any team/home i come to work with.
Requirements
• What would you like to do or gain in your next job?
I would love to be back working with horses and outdoors again and hoping to get back to doing what I love, and learning some more along the way.
• Do you need accommodation?
Dependant on location.
• Do you have any special requirements for any animals you wish to bring with you?
I have a dog who is very well behaved and has been around horses. It would not be necessary to have her on the yard with me as she is fine on her own and usually is whilst I am at work and come back on my break.
• Do you have any ongoing commitments?
No
• Do you have any holidays booked that an employer needs to know of?
No
