Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Assistant Estate Manager to assist in overseeing the daily operations of a rural estate with the view to taking over the role of Estate Manager that includes livestock (cattle and horses), agricultural land, paddocks, stables, and residential grounds. The successful candidate will be hands-on, practical, and capable of managing both people and property, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of all estate functions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Livestock & Equine Management
- Daily oversight of cattle and horse care including feeding, watering, health monitoring, and welfare.
- Liaising with vets, farriers, and nutritionists to ensure optimal care.
- Supervision of breeding programs, calving, foaling, and weaning schedules.
- Maintenance of accurate livestock records, health logs, and movement documentation.
- Ensuring appropriate pasture management, grazing rotation, and fencing.
- Land & Farm Maintenance
- Oversight of all land use, including pasture management, hay / Silage production, fencing, drainage, and soil health.
- Operation and maintenance of farm machinery (tractors, mowers, ATVs, etc.).
- Ensuring compliance with environmental and agricultural regulations.
- Management of tree planting, hedge maintenance, and conservation efforts.
- Estate Grounds and Buildings
- Maintenance of residential buildings, outbuildings, barns, stables, and fences.
- Coordinating repairs, renovations, and servicing of estate infrastructure.
- Overseeing gardens, driveways, and pathways with a high standard of presentation.
- Managing suppliers, contractors, and service providers as needed.
- Staff and Operations Management
- Supervision of estate staff (grooms, gardeners, maintenance workers, seasonal labour).
- Creating and managing rotas, training, and task lists.
- Budget management and reporting to the estate manager and estate owner.
- Procurement of supplies, tools, and feed.
Minimum Requirements
- Proven experience in estate, farm, or livestock management.
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, particularly cattle and equine care.
- Skilled in land and machinery maintenance.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Highly organized with attention to detail and record-keeping.
- Practical, hands-on approach with good problem-solving skills.
- Basic IT and admin skills for reporting and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Agricultural or Equine-related degree or certifications – experience .
- Chainsaw, ATV, or machinery licenses.
- First aid and animal handling certifications.
