The Hong Kong Jockey Club
The Hong Kong Jockey Club is keen on promoting the equestrian sport and has funded the establishment of four riding schools. Various equestrian activities are held in the schools to promote the sport, including group training classes, horse hiring, taking a horse at livery, visits and competitions. After strict assessment, these schools are the only riding venues recognized by the British Horse Society in Hong Kong.
The Equestrian Affairs Department aims to fulfil the Club’s vision to promote riding as a sport and raise participation at all levels, from beginner through to elite. It oversees the management of four equestrian centres, including the Member’s facility at the Beas River Country Club and three public riding schools at Tuen Mun, Lei Yue Mun Park and Pok Fu Lam.
The Equestrian Coach will report to the Senior Manager, Equestrian. He/She will be responsible for, but not exclusively, the duties listed below, working 48 hours per week.
Job Description
- Providing professional riding lessons and organizing equestrian activities while delivering excellent customer service and responding constructively to client feedback.
- Upholding safety standards by following company safety policies, maintaining horse training and welfare, and ensuring tack is safe and properly fitted.
- Supporting the Senior Manager, Senior Equestrian Coach, Veterinarian, and Farrier in daily operations to ensure the well-being of horses and effective communication among staff.
- Contributing to staff development through training, mentoring, and encouraging professional qualifications and career progression.
- Collaborating with HKJC departments and external stakeholders, supporting events, clinics, competitions, and promotional activities to grow participation in equestrian sports.
- Working closely with management and administrative teams to improve operational efficiency, facilitate lessons, and promote rider engagement in club activities.
- Completing required administrative duties accurately and on time, including horse allocation requests, accident reporting, lesson attendance records, and other assigned responsibilities.
Minimum Requirements
- The job holder must have acquired BHS Qualifications Level 3 (Stage 3) or equivalent qualification
- Have a knowledge of training methods for schooling a variety of horses both under saddle and from the ground; previous experience of working with thoroughbreds would be advantageous
- be a holder of first-aid certificate
- Personable, enthusiastic and positive personality
- Passion for horses and horse riding
- Fluency in English
