The Hong Kong Jockey Club

The Hong Kong Jockey Club is keen on promoting the equestrian sport and has funded the establishment of four riding schools. Various equestrian activities are held in the schools to promote the sport, including group training classes, horse hiring, taking a horse at livery, visits and competitions. After strict assessment, these schools are the only riding venues recognized by the British Horse Society in Hong Kong.

The Equestrian Affairs Department aims to fulfil the Club’s vision to promote riding as a sport and raise participation at all levels, from beginner through to elite. It oversees the management of four equestrian centres, including the Member’s facility at the Beas River Country Club and three public riding schools at Tuen Mun, Lei Yue Mun Park and Pok Fu Lam.

The Qualified Saddler provides professional saddlery services for the Club’s equestrian horses in Hong Kong and Mainland China, ensuring optimal saddle fit, equipment performance, and horse welfare. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Equestrian (BREC), the role supports equine wellbeing while promoting best practices and collaboration across the equestrian community.

 

Job Description

  • Provide professional saddlery services, including saddle fitting, tack assessment, repair, maintenance, and equipment adjustments for HKJC riding schools, partner organizations, and clients.
  • Advise on saddlery selection, procurement, and equipment management to ensure horse welfare, safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Conduct regular inspections of saddlery and tack, maintain accurate records, and collaborate with veterinarians and equestrian stakeholders to support equine health and performance.
  • Manage saddlery inventory and stock control to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Deliver training and knowledge-sharing programs for apprentice saddlers, coaches, stable staff, and other equestrian personnel.
  • Promote best practices in saddlery through workshops, seminars, and educational initiatives in Hong Kong, Mainland China, and other locations as required
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including Racing Operations, to enhance saddlery standards, knowledge exchange, and the broader equine value chain.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Management

 

Minimum Requirements

  • be a qualified bench saddler with at least five years’ experience
  • be a qualified and experienced saddle fitter
  • be a team player but able to work on own initiative
  • be customer focused
  • All saddle fitting, adjusting and fixing
  • Training of apprentices
  • Overview of all leatherwork repairs.
